Pekka Johannes HämäläinenFBA (born 1967 in Helsinki) is a Finnish historian who has been the Rhodes Professor of American History at the University of Oxford since 2012.^[1][2] He was formerly in the history department at University of California, Santa Barbara.^[3]

Life and career

Hämäläinen was born and raised in Helsinki, Finland.

While attending secondary school, he realized that he enjoyed history, with his core interest being Native American history. At university, Hämäläinen majored in his chosen subject and trained to become a secondary history teacher.
